Long Leather Coat

February 03, 2020 by Chelsea Williams

When it comes to staple pieces, you know a leather jacket is at the top of my list!
Leather jackets are timeless and they simply go with EVERYTHING!

While scrolling through Pinterest, I came across some fashionistas sporting long leather coats and it automatically brought me back to the early 2000s, when everyone including my momma were wearing them.

I began looking at other looks paired with this type of coat and got inspired. When I started shopping around for one, I noticed brands like OAK + FORT and Nasty Gal were selling them, but they weren’t within my price range.

This year I’m trying to be frugal because ya girl gots some financial goals to meet! So with that being said, I went straight to my mom’s closet to see if she still had her coat and to my surprise, she did! My mom doesn’t use this coat anymore, but I saved so much money just by taking hers (of course with her permission) instead of buying a new and refined one.

I wanted to stress the importance of looking through your parents’, grandparents’, hell, even your aunts’ and uncles’ closets to find some vintage pieces!

Fashion always recycles itself, so don’t feel like you always have to go out and buy something that’s back in style.

White Boots

November 25, 2019 by Chelsea Williams

Move over fashion police! Who said you can’t wear white after labour day?

White boots, short or tall, are a major trend this season and I am a huge fan!

Since early September, I’ve been dying to get my hands on the perfect pair of white boots and I’ve finally found them!

Must I add, this was not an easy search! After many online and in-store visits, my girl, Ebonee, sent me a link to a pair of boots that were identical to the ones I tried on in a store at the Eaton Centre.

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may remember I posted a video to my story of me trying on a pair of white boots and I was foaming over them.

The boots were $238 and ladies, I was NOT paying that!

If you’re new here, you must know that I am a bargain hunter and I do all things on a budget; so I was not making an exception for these boots.

Fast forward, I clicked the link (the link Ebonee sent) and the boots were from Fashion Nova. Now, I have never bought anything from Fashion Nova, but I’ve heard many great things despite their lengthy shipping process.

What sold me on the boots were that they were 40% off and in my budget.

So what did I do? I copped them.

White boots are a staple for the autumn/winter season and I am showing you how to style them — two different ways.

OUTFIT DETAILS
Both the blazer and leather jacket were from dad’s closet. I must admit, before I buy pieces similar to these, I always raid his closet as he has THE best vintage clothing. I’m sure if you thrift or even raid your parents’/family member’s closet, you’ll be able to find some cool pieces as well.

My jeans for the second look are from Zara and they’re my favourite jeans to wear if you couldn’t tell already! These particular jeans are no longer available, but you could get your hands on an identical pair here.

The chained belt is by Cozy Girlfriend chain belt which is currently sold out. See more of her products here.

OTHER WAYS OF STYLING WHITE BOOTS
〰️ Pops of Colour:
Aside from oversized blazers and vintage jackets, pairing white boots with vibrant colours would
really make these boots pop!

〰️ Patterned Pieces: Tweed, plaid, and polka dots are all in for this autumn/winter season. You could opt for a plaid mini skirt, tweed coat, or even a polka dot dress as it complements the boots.

〰️ Florals: Floral prints are dominating the fashion game! White boots and florals make the perfect pairing whether you’re wearing a long or midi dress. Also, feel free to mix and match with different prints, so you can really stand out!

The boots came up to $51.98 USD (68.59 CAD) and to me, this was a steal! Stores like ASOS and Zara were selling white boots from $100 and up and to be honest, I was not spending that much!

November 08, 2018 by Chelsea Williams

Bold animal prints from the late 90s into the early 2000s are making a huge comeback and I am here for it!

One print that is versatile and allows you to make a statement is snakeskin.

Now that this print is back on the fashion scene, I’ve curated a series of looks to give you some inspo!

Dark-Wash Denim W/ Topstitching

February 22, 2018 by Chelsea Williams

From bold white stitching to a tailored straight-leg, this early 2000s trend has been revived.  Three words: Dark. Wash. Jeans.

Popular ready-to-wear brands like Orseund Iris and Public School are refining these dark wash jeans with different colour pallets and threaded detailing.

Don’t know how to acquaint yourself with this denim trend? Here are some looks that you should try.

〰️  Canadian Tuxedo: This denim-on-denim look is the easiest way you can incorporate the dark-wash trend. Whether you opt for a pair of heels or sneakers, this is definitely a look you should try.

〰️  Jumpsuit: Not only do Jumpsuits allow you to get dressed within seconds, but they require minimal styling. The bold top-stitching on jumpsuits pops making the out.

〰️  Denim Dress: Mini or midi, denim dresses are a vibe! Accessorize it with a belt or small satchel and you’ll be well on your way.

For this look, I turned my long sleeve shirt into a crop top ($9) and paired it with denim wide-leg trousers accented with white topstitching and an elongated belt ($70). To top off this look, I wore a pair of white pointed-toe mules ($7).

Houndstooth Trousers

February 02, 2018 by Chelsea Williams

Whether it’s big or small print, houndstooth trousers are making it past the office and into a more casual setting.

Everyone and their mama are rocking a pair and to be honest, I don’t blame them.

The houndstooth pattern has been planted onto this season’s staple piece – wide-leg trousers.

From the sleek waistline to the flares, these pants allow you to be sophisticated yet trendy.

However, styling Houndstooth trousers may be very tricky, here are some do’s and don’ts.

Do’s:

〰️  Don’t be afraid to show your midriff. Cropped tops or bralettes pair nicely with these pants.

〰️  A loose blouse always complements houndstooth trousers. Always be sure to wear neutral and solid tones.

〰️  Feeling bossy? Throw on a blazer with a camisole underneath and let your pants do the talking.

Dont's:
These patterned bottoms only have one don’t and one don’t only.

Don’t wear additional patterns while sporting houndsooth trousers! For instance, wearing a striped t-shirt with houndstooth bottoms. This is a big no! When you do this, you often take away from the houndstooth print itself.

I opted for a classy pair of high-waisted wide-legged trousers with small houndstooth detailing ($29) accompanied with a basic tank top ($4) and black pointed-toe heels ($26). I then completed this look with dangly gold earrings ($7), my mom’s cuffed bracelet, and a deep red circular purse ($29)

Puffer Coat

January 25, 2018 by Chelsea Williams

This winter, fashionistas are ditching their traditional parkas for an edgier outer garment - padded puffer coats.
Thanks to designers like Balenciaga and Raf Simons, this voluminous trend has made its comeback from the ‘90s and it looks like it’s here to stay.

Although the weather has been up and down, people have been relying on this functional jacket to keep them warm and in style.
Their wide range of colours and different silhouettes allows you to stand out wherever you are.

Many people have a hard time pulling off this season’s “it” coat. Here are some ways you can rock a puffer jacket without looking like a balloon.

〰️  Oversized: There’s something about a gigantic winter coat with poofy sleeves and drawstrings that seem exceptionally cool. With this type of jacket, you can style as you please. Whether you don a tracksuit or a chic dress, oversized puffers are extremely versatile.

〰️  Off-the-shoulder: If the weather permits, why not rock your puffer off-the-shoulder? Rihanna does it. Switch it up by wearing it with a mid-calf body-con or a sultry slip dress with a pair booties or strappy heels.

〰️  Cropped:  Besides oversized, cropped puffers are a big mood! From vinyl to matte, these jackets easily look nice with a bodysuit and vintage jeans. You can also wear a cropped sweater paired with of wide-legged trousers and the shoe of your choice.

I opted for what I like to call a “casual-cute” all-black ensemble. I took this sporty extra-large padded puffer coat ($30) and paired it with simple cropped top ($6) and high-waisted jeggings with ripped detailing ($35). Finally, I completed this look with a pair of imitation Yeezy Season 5 lace-up heels ($60)

Oversized Sweater

December 07, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

When it comes to wearing an oversized sweater, it’s either you go big or go home. Whether you gravitate towards crewnecks or hoodies, this sweater trend is something you might want to incorporate into your wardrobe.

For most people, wearing a sweater three times their size on an off days is extremely comfortable.

But wearing it to make a fashion statement is a completely different story.

Here are some different ways you could wear an oversized sweater.

〰️   As a dress: When morphing a sweater into a dress, disregard your actual size. For example, if you wear a medium in normal sweaters, grab an extra-large.
〰️    Cropped: Gather up your favourite high-waisted bottoms because every cropped, oversized sweater needs a high-waisted pant.
〰️    Layered: Layering a sweater is perfect for any occasion. Whether you opt for a cable-knit or plain one, you can always wear button-ups, dresses, and tops underneath them.
〰️    Slouchy:  Who doesn’t love slouchy sweaters? Slouchy sweaters can be worn off-the-shoulder or with a comfy pair of leggings or jeans accompanied with the shoe of your choice.

One last thing! Don’t be afraid to accessorize. Accent your sweater with a chain belt, corset, or even a blanket scarf.

You’ll never guess where I got this oversized turtle neck sweater. Walmart! This gem was from their George collection and it was only $17. To make the sweater oversized, I bought a large and wore it as a dress. I completed this minimalistic look with a pair of thigh-high boots ($50) and small hoop earrings. ($7)

Cozy Co-ordinate

November 16, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

As temperatures begin to dip, it can become harder to be stylish.

Luckily, co-ordinate sets allow you to stay trendy during the winter season.

Like jumpsuits, co-ords save time and take away the stress of finding a top to go with a bottom, or vice versa. Pieces of sets can also be worn individually to make new outfits.

The best part about wearing sets is that it allows you to be “matchy-matchy” without doing the absolute most. For a holiday party, you could wear a co-ord set in a bold colour or pattern. If you’re doing some last minute shopping, a simple cotton set will do the trick.

So, you have the perfect co-ordinate, but don’t know how to style it?

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Matching sets are usually simple, so you always want to dress it up with accessories that will make the entire outfit pop.

Aside from my winter uniform – sweaters, leggings, and UGGs – this charcoal turtle neck and flared pant set ($25.90 each) is my kind of “cozy.” It’s sophisticated and extremely comfortable!

This look would have been a bland one if I wore studs. Therefore, I completed this outfit with a pair of H&M hoop earrings ($5) and white Stan Smith sneakers ($70).

Edgy Jumpsuit

November 09, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

Who needs tops and bottoms when you’ve got a jumpsuit?

Jumpsuits were sent from the fashion Gods themselves! Their all-in-one make is convenient, easy to style, and perfect for any occasion.

Finding the perfect jumpsuit to add to your wardrobe may seem like a daunting task, but fear not! I have a few tips.

〰️   Choose a jumper that will complement your body type. If you have curves – go for something fitted that will showcase your shape. If you’re short, opt for a cropped leg, so it makes your legs look longer.

〰️   Try to find a jumpsuit that is versatile. You always want to choose a jumpsuit that can be easily transitioned from day to night.

〰️   Lastly, be sure to choose a jumper that will go with jackets and shoes you already own. The worst is when you buy something that is not practical and it’s only good for a one-time use.

I took this ribbed low-v jumpsuit ($7) and dressed it all the way down. The oversized fit probed me to go for a comfortable yet edgy look. I accented this jumpsuit with Cozy GF’s “Kyanna” chain belt ($30) paired with Old Skool Vans ($80) and my mom’s vintage DKNY sunglasses.

Sultry Culottes

November 02, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

If you thought for one second that you didn’t need a pair of culottes – think again.

Designers like Stella McCartney and retailers like Zara are beginning to ditch the classic style to incorporate bold colours and unique textiles.

Culottes aren’t just trendy; they are versatile, come in different styles and accentuate all body types.

These sultry navy blue culottes ($49) give me life! I am obsessed with the wrapped waistline and of course, the high-slits.

You can pair any top with these trousers. You could do a sleek bodysuit or an oversized sweatshirt; it just depends on the look you’re going for.

One thing you should keep in mind when styling cropped culottes are your shoes. Whether it’s a pair of booties, heels, or sneakers, your shoes will make or break your outfit.

All About The Ruffles

October 26, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

It’s fun, it’s flirty, and it definitely makes you stand out – I’m talking about my favourite 2017 fashion trend – ruffles!

From asymmetrical to cropped, to oversized to fitted, there’s something for everyone.

When I first laid eyes on this off-the-shoulder ruffled top ($30), I knew I had to have it. I love that it has dramatic frill detailing and doesn't need much to dress it up.

Photo by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

Photo by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

When styling an outfit that contains a ruffled piece, there’s no need to overly accessorize. The ruffles should be your focal point and anything else you add should just complement it.

This whimsical top makes a statement on its own, so I kept this look as subtle as possible.

Recycled Blazer and $19 Mom Jeans

October 19, 2017 by Chelsea Williams

When it comes to buying clothes, I love balling on a budget and incorporating the latest trends.

This season’s trend is the "9 to 5 blazer” and the price for one has significantly gone up. People are paying a minimum of $80 to $200. That is insane!

Being fashionable doesn’t always come with an expensive price tag. Hit up a thrift store, shop in the sale section at stores like Forever 21 or raid your mom’s closet.

A trick I like to use is recycling my clothing. Recycling clothes consists of reusing trendy garments from several years ago to complement an outfit.

Photos by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

Photos by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

I personally like to recycle “staple pieces.” Staple pieces are must-have items that you can reuse at any point and time.
They include biker jackets, jeans jackets, blazers, cardigans, vintage jeans, and much more.

Photos by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

Photos by: Aida // Instagram: @fxline

For this look, I recycled this H&M blazer ($30) that I bought back in 2010 and paired it with Zara Mom Jeans that were on sale for just $19! I completed my outfit with a pair of studded-tassel earrings ($8), a satin mini tote ($14), and lastly black pointed-toe heels ($26).

Each week, Stylin' On A Budget shows you how to take a look under $100 and make it look BOMB!

I hope you guys can recreate these looks or get some inspiration for an even better one.
